The 15th annual WhiskyFest will hit New York City October 26 – 27. The Marriott Marquis Times Square will be hosting the event, that will feature a selection of more than 250 whiskies from around the world. Whisky enthusiasts will be treated to some of the rarest and most expensive whiskies you can find.

Some of the Whiskies that will be available for sampling include; Irish whiskies, single malt and blended Scotch, all types of bourbons, and Tennessee whiskies. Some of the whisky brands that will be available for sample are; Aberfeldy, Dewar’s, Koval Distillery, Laphroaig, Duncan Taylor, Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Four Roses, Auchentoshan, Macallan, George Dickel, Mackmyra, Bardstown Barrel Selections, Michael Collins Irish Whiskey, Bastille 1789 French Whiskey, GlenDronach, Old Potrero, Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Bruichladdich, The Glenrothes, Highland Park, Yamazaki, and The Dalmore.

Along with the whiskey sampling, there will be a variety of speakers that will be hosting whisky seminars.

Some of the speakers include: Simon Coughlin – Bruichladdich, Matthew Crow – Johnnie Walker, John Glaser – Compass Box, Ian Logan – Chivas Brothers, Dr. Bill Lumsden – Glenmorangie & Ardbeg, Colum Egan – Bushmills, Barry Crockett – Midleton Distillery and David Perkins – High West.

The 2012 AKC (American Kennel Club) Meet the Breeds event, will feature over 200 breeds of Cats and Dogs. The event which is in its forth year will take place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City on October 20-21. Get your tickets today!

This years event promises to be bigger and better as both the AKC and the International Cat Association (TICA), the world’s largest genetic registry of purebred cats, join forces.

AKC Meet the Breeds, is the world’s largest showcase of dogs and cats. They offer pet lovers a unique opportunity to play with some of the country’s rarest dog and cat breeds while educating themselves about responsible pet ownership and choosing the right pet for their lifestyle.

You will have a chance to interact with dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and learn about their history and unique attributes. 2012 Columbus Day Parade in New York City

The 68th Annual NYC Columbus Day Parade will take place on Monday, October 8. The parade which has been organized in New York since 1929 is the world’s largest celebration of Italian-American culture. The event which will be televised globally includes, 35,000 marchers with over 100 groups, including bands, floats and contingents. Nearly one million spectators are expected. This year, the parade route begins on Fifth Avenue at 44th Street, and continues north along Fifth Avenue to 72nd Street.

The grandstands will be located on Fifth Avenue between 67th and 69th Streets. The Columbus Day Parade begins at 11:30 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. The Grand Marshall of this years parade will be Philanthropist and Wall Street Leader and Innovator Mario Gabelli.

The parade is preceded by the Columbus Day Mass which takes place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 9:30 a.m.

Little Italy’s Feast of San Gennaro Sept. 13-23

The 86th Annual Feast of San Gennaro will take place this year from September 13-23. Little Italy in Lower Manhattan will be transformed into a giant feast of Italian cuisine that includes, religious processions, colorful parade, free musical entertainment, and a world-famous Cannoli eating competition.

The streets will be closed in the area to make room for dining to over 35 of Little Italy’s most famous Italian restuarants. There are also more than 300 street vendors selling their goods.

The event is one of the longest running revered religious outdoor festivals in the United States and this year, the expected turnout over this 11 day annual Salute to the Patron Saint of Naples is set to attract over one million people.

The Feast runs along Mulberry Street, between Canal Street (on south) and Houston Street (on north). It takes place east to west on Grand Street, between Mott and Baxter Street, and east to west on Hester Street, between Mott and Baxter Streets.

2012 West Indian Parade Photos and Video

The 2012 West Indian Labor Day Parade was an awesome festivity of history, culture, music, dance and food. People from all over the world attended the parade which is one of the largest in New York City to celebrate West Indian heritage from countries that include Jamaica, Trinidad, Tobego, Martinique, Barbados, Bahamas, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent the Grenadines and more…

Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn came alive for the 45th annual West Indian-American Day Parade which gave us a great dose of reggae and soca music blasting off the sides of flat bed trucks as they made their way through Crown Heights, en route to Grand Army Plaza. Jerk Chicken, Roast Corn, Rice and Peas, Sorrel and many other foods of the Caribbean were available along the entire stretch of the parade.

2012 West Indian American Parade and Carnival in Brooklyn

This year will mark the 45th anniversary of the West Indian American Day Parade & Carnival. This parade is one of the city’s biggest that takes place yearly on Labor Day. Thousand’s of people will line the streets of Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, Brooklyn to dance and partake in a Caribbean tradition.

There will not only be colorful costumes but tons of food vendors serving Caribbean food from Trinidad/Tobago, Guyana, Haiti, Barbados, Saint Lucia and Jamaica. There will be no shortage of Jerk Chicken or Escovitch fish at this outdoor event.

Getting to the parade is best by public transportation. Driving is not recommended.

Directions:

Subway 2 to Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Avenue 3 to Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Avenue or Utica Avenue 4 to Franklin Avenue or Utica Avenue 5 to Franklin Avenue.

**Remember that there is no service to the Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum stop during this event

Getting off the subway at Grand Army Plaza puts you at the end of the parade route in one of the most crowded and controlled areas.

Better choices are the Franklin or Utica Avenue stops.
