Incomparable Women of Style at Fashion Institute of Technology

New York City photographer Rose Hartman, has been capturing epic moments in fashion, style, and culture for more than 30 years. Incomparable Women of Style: Selections from the Rose Hartman Photography Archives, 1977-2011, is an exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) that features a complete archive of Hartman’s images that were snapped at fashion shows, parties, clubs, and openings.

The exhibit is presented by the Fashion Institute of Technology and can be viewed from November 4, 2011 to January 20, 2012 in the Gladys Marcus Library Department of Special Collections at FIT.

The show will display about 60 photographs, including large-scale images and rare vintage silver prints developed by Hartman in her home studio.

Some of the women who have been in front of Hartman’s lens include: Bianca Jagger, Jerry Hall, Bethann Hardison, Margaux Hemingway, Nan Kempner, Diana Vreeland, Isabella Blow, Anna Wintour, Grace Jones, Vivienne Westwood, Naomi Campbell, Betsey Johnson, Donna Karan, Iris Apfel, Isabella Rossellini, Lauren Hutton, Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Courtney Love, Madonna, Diane von Furstenberg.

Photographs were taken at locations that include design studios, Studio 54,the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, art galleries, backstage at fashion shows, and on the street.

The library is located on the 5th floor, where the exhibition begins. Enter at the Shirley Goodman Resource Center, located on the southwest corner of Seventh Avenue at 27th Street. By showing FIT Security a valid picture ID, visitors will be given a same-day library pass.
