A Street Car Named Desire on Broadway

Tennessee Williams’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire is now on Broadway. The revival of this classic drama will feature an all star cast that includes, 2-time Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood in his Broadway debut as Stanley, Nicole Ari Parker (“Soul Food”) as Blanche DuBois, Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent) as Stella and Wood Harris (“The Wire”) as Mitch.

A Street Car Named Desire tells the tragic story of former schoolteacher Blanche, who leaves the family plantation house and moves to New Orleans to live with her sister, Stella, and Stella’s animalistic husband, Stanley. She quickly gets a gritty life lesson in the seamy, steamy underbelly of 1940s life in the French Quarter.

The score for the production was composed by 5-time Grammy Award winner, New Orleans jazz legend, Terence Blanchard and Directed by Emily Mann (Artistic Director of Princeton’s esteemed McCarter Theatre).
