Medeski Martin & Wood special with special guests Antibalas, played an epic show at Terminal 5 in New York City on October 29. The highlight of the night was when both bands took to the stage and performed together. Big Time City are huge fans of both bands. We are eagerly anticipating their next shows in NYC.
Medeski Martin & Wood fuse jazz, rock, fusion and funk music. The trio conists of John Medeski on keyboards and piano, Billy Martin on drums and percussion, and Chris Wood on double bass and bass guitar.
Antibalas (Spanish for “bulletproof”) is a Brooklyn-based afrobeat band whose background draws on musical lineages steeped in jazz, funk, Afro-Caribbean, and West African music. African artist Fela Kuti is a big influence on the band’s music. The 14 piece bands consists of: Martin Perna – Baritone Sax & flute, Amayo – Lead Vocals & Percussion, Jordan McLean – Trumpet, Victor Axelrod – Keyboards, Aaron Johnson – Trombone, Stuart Bogie – Conductor & Tenor Sax, Luke O’Malley – Guitar, Chris Vatalaro – Drums, Marcus Farrar – Shekere & Vocals, Marcos Garcia – Guitar, Nikhil Yerawadekar – Bass, Eric Biondo – Trumpet, Miles Arntzen – Drums, Yoshi Takemasa – Percussion.
