Diwali, the festival of lights will be celebrated this year on Sunday October 30 by, Sikhs, Jains and Hindus in and around the world. There are a number of Diwali events that will be taking place throughout the month of October in New York City.
The meaning of Diwali comes from the Sanskrit deepvali, which means “row of lights”. The Festival of Lights, symbolizes the victory of light over dark, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.
One of the biggest annual festivals in the Hindu Calendar is Diwali. The Hindus celebrate Diwali in a variety of ways. The tradition of decorating houses and public places with thousands of lights, gathering of family and friends, distributing sweets and Fireworks are some of the things that are part of the celebration.
