New Year’s Eve 2012 In Times Square

New Years eve in Times Square is a great way to usher in the New Year but, before you decide to head out and watch the famous illuminated Waterford Crystal ball drop, make sure that you plan ahead for this awesome night of entertainment. There will be approximately 1 million people that will be crowded into the streets and an estimated 1 billion–plus viewers watching from all over the world.


There will be dazzling lights and 2 tons of confetti that will be energizing Times Square on December 31. Here are some of the highlights and tips if you are planning on attending the world’s biggest New Years Eve Party.

Grammy Award-nominated recording artist Drake, British superstar Jessie J, NBC’s “The Voice” musician coach and three-time Grammy nominee Blake Shelton, “The Voice” coach and Grammy Award-nominated artist Cee Lo Green, NBC’s “Smash” star Megan Hilty, four-time Grammy-winning band The Roots and 15-time Grammy Award winner Tony Bennett will help usher in 2012 on “NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly. The two-hour special will air live on Saturday, December 31st, beginning in primetime from 10:00 – 11:00 p.m. (ET) and continuing from 11:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. (ET)

dick clark productions is marking its 40th year of New Year’s celebrations with style. It has been confirmed that Lady Gaga will perform for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2012! The pop phenomenon will perform just before the ball drops. To mark the 40th anniversary of the cherished New Year’s Eve celebration, the festivities will begin at 8:00 p.m. EST (televised on ABC Television Network) with a new two-hour special entitled “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve: The 40th Anniversary Party. It’s going to be a night of super talents as Justin Bieber, Pitbull and Hot Chelle Rae will be performing.

Here are some tips  for those of you in New York City that will be heading out to Time Square:

  • The Ball drops at One Times Square. It can best be seen along Broadway, from 43rd Street to 50th Street, and along Seventh Avenue, as far north as 59th Street.
  • The best place to view is where the sound system is set up in the Bowtie area (where Broadway and Seventh Avenue cross), and the video screens on One Times Square (where the Ball is lowered) are easily visible. There are additional screens set up at Broadway and 50th Street, Broadway and 52nd Street, Broadway and 54th Street and Broadway and 58th Street.
  • The best time to head to Times Square is approximately 6:00 p.m. EST. The Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball will be raised to the top of the 77-foot flagpole at One Times Square (Broadway at 43rd Street) and lit. At exactly 11:59 p.m. EST, the Ball will make its 60-second descent down the flagpole to signal the start of the New Year.
  • There is no set time when the streets will be blocked off  but, It is likely that there will be no vehicular traffic on either Broadway or Seventh Avenue as of approximately 3:00 p.m. Vehicles will most likely have difficulty traveling across town after 6:00 p.m. above 42nd Street as far north as 59th Street.
