Brooklyn Bridge Park is home to the latest attraction to DUMBO, Jane’s Carousel. The old-fashioned organ music plays while 48 hand carved horses, make their rounds. Children laugh and play as they take turns on the carousel.
DUMBO, which stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, received the carousel and the Jean Nouvel commissioned Pavilion, from the Walentas family who offered it as a gift to the people of New York City.
The pavilion and the carousel are located right between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, which span the river and connect the two New York City boroughs.
The Carousel was made by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company in 1922 and in 1975, it became the first carousel ever listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Jane’s Carousel will delight children, as well as visitors from around the world, for many generations to come.
Tickets to ride the carousel are $2.00. Children age 3 and younger and those under 42” tall may ride free if accompanied by a paying adult.
Hours of operation: 11:00am – 7:00pm daily, closed Tuesdays. Open all year round.
